Moore’s death was confirmed in a statement shared on social media by the company on Saturday
Bob Moore, the man who founded the company that also founded Bob’s Red Mill, has died. Since the 94th year.
From Bob Red Mill’s Instagram account, Moore announced his death, and Moore made a statement about his life, saying, “That’s why I’m that person.”
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our founder Bob Moore passed away today, Saturday, February 10, 2024,” the statement said. “He was 94 years old and filled with the same love for healthy food as the day he founded Bob’s Red Mill.”
Also accompanying the message were photos of Moore, an Oregon native, wearing a red Bob’s Red Mill jacket featuring the late founder. In the second photo, Moore was sitting with his late wife Charlie, who died in 2018.
“Bob’s passion, ingenuity and respect for others will always inspire the employee owners of Bob’s Red Mill,” the statement said. “And we will carry on his legacy by bringing nutritious food to people around the world.”
“We will truly miss his strength and larger-than-life personality,” the message concluded.
A final photo included in the post shows a young Moore posing with a group of employees outside his shop Moore’s Flour Mill, which he opened in Redding, California in 1974 before developing Bob’s Flour Mill.
Representatives for Bob’s Red Mill did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
According to Portland Monthly, Moore was born in Portland and raised in Los Angeles before moving to Redding and then Milwaukee, Oregon.

“We need to change our diet,” Moore told People of his initial idea in 2019. “We all became very attracted to whole grain, healthy foods.”
Shortly after marrying and starting a family, Bob and Charlie opened a stone-fired flour mill in Redding, where they produced nutritious grains and flour. Moore and Charlie opened Bob’s Red Mill in Milwaukee in 1978, when Moore was 50 years old. The company focused on selling natural foods and is still thriving today.

“If I had a life to live, I would have started in this business a long time ago. You know, I started in the middle of my life,” Morey told CBS in a 2020 interview.
However, by 2010, Bob’s Red Mill had become a $100 million company that Moore gifted to his employees. “They made us the best company that I’m proud of,” he explained to People in 2019.
Moore also discussed this business move with Portland Monthly, stating, “The Bible says treat others as you would have them treat you. And so you should treat others the same way. It should be done as you want.” There’s an element to it that appealed to me. And the profit sharing, the partnership in the company to make things fairer and more altruistic impressed me and I felt strongly about it.”
According to Moore, when the pandemic hit in 2020, the company saw a sharp increase in products sold, as well as a pause in yeasted items due to food shortages and baking panics during lockdowns.
Moore is survived by his three sons, Ken, Bob Jr. and David, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
