“What an amazing year it’s been,” Reese wrote in a message broadcast on social media. “I’m experiencing a range of emotions due to my season-ending injury, but I’m also extremely grateful for what’s next. I’m finally able to give myself a rest mentally and physically, even though it’s God’s time and not mine.”
Reese scored a game-high 24 points and 12 rebounds in the Sky’s blowout win over the Sparks on Friday, her 26th double-double of the season in 34 games. She shot 9 of 15 from the field and 1 of 3 from three, including a 3-pointer with 3:20 minutes remaining to ice the game.
“I never thought my last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3, but maybe God was saying give them a taste of what they’ll see more of in Year 2,” Reese said.

Reese ended her rookie campaign etching her name in the record books, averaging 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. She also leads the league in rebounds (13.1), offensive rebounds per game (5.1), and sets WNBA single-season records for most rebounds (446). Her 15-game double-double streak tied the record for the most consecutive times since Candace Parker, who had 12 consecutive double-doubles in the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Reese was named a WNBA All-Star and recorded a double-double in ASG’s win over the US women’s national basketball team.
As of Tuesday, Reese was listed as No. 2 in the USA TODAY Sports WNBA Rookie of the Year power rankings.
“Throughout it all, even when nobody else did, I proved that I belonged in this league. Reese, who led the Tigers to the Elite Eight and was selected seventh overall in the April draft out of LSU, stated, “All I have ever wanted was to come into the W and make an impact.” “I can confidently say I have done that and will strive to keep doing so.”

The Sky (12-22) are locked in a battle with the Atlanta Dream (12-22) and Washington Mystics (11-23) for the eighth and final spot in the playoffs. Chicago will face Washington (Sept. 11) and Atlanta (Sept. 17) in its final six regular season games this year. Although Reese won’t be on the court, the budding sensation told her Chicago teammates, “You’ll still see me on the sidelines as the biggest cheerleader.”
The 2024 WNBA playoffs will begin on September 22
Reese also made a suggestion that she will return in time for the January start of Unrevealed, a 3-on-3 league founded by WNBA All-Stars Breanna Stewart and Nepheesha Collier: “Unrevealed League, see you soon!”
