Nagpur Murder Case: The hit and run incident that took place last month in Nagpur, Maharashtra, has turned out to be a case of contract killing related to a property dispute of more than Rs 300 crore. Property worth about Rs 300 crore became the cause of the death of the elderly man. The daughter-in-law herself conspired and got her father-in-law killed. Police said that the murder was done to grab the family property worth crores of rupees. According to sources, the police investigation in the hit and run case has revealed that the accused daughter-in-law had promised to give Rs 1 crore to the contract killer to grab the property of her father-in-law. According to News 18, in this case, the deceased 82-year-old Purushottam Puttewar was hit by a speeding car in Balaji Nagari, Nagpur on May 22. However, initially a bailable case of accident was registered in this case and the driver was released along with the car. But after the intervention of a top police officer, a detailed investigation began. Later, daughter-in-law Archana and her accomplices Sarthak Bagde and Dharmik were arrested.
How the case was revealed
The new twist in the case came when CCTV footage of the accident was examined, which revealed part of the car’s registration number. Police have claimed that co-accused Dharamik had spent Rs 40,000 to buy the second-hand car used to crush Purushottam, while Bagade contributed Rs 1.20 lakh. During remand, Dharamik admitted to taking Rs 3 lakh and some gold from Archana to complete the job. Police recovered cash and valuables from Dharamik’s house. The Crime Branch had detained Archana on June 6 and sought her three-day remand from the court. Accused Archana is posted as Assistant Director of Town Planning in Gadchiroli and Chandrapur.
The incident happened on May 22
Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravindra Singhal told the media, “Six accused have been arrested in the case following the ‘hit and run’ murder of businessman Purushottam Puttewar on May 22.” The main accused in the case is P Archana Manish (53) Puttewar. Police arrested Archana last week. Archana’s father-in-law Purushottam Puttewar was hit by a car and died in the accident. The police chief said, “Archana Puttewar’s elder brother Prashant Parlewar is on the police radar for his alleged involvement in the case. He has been arrested.” On May 22, Purushottam Puttewar was returning home on foot after meeting his wife when a speeding car hit him. He was seriously injured in the accident. He died during treatment.
The police have so far recovered gold, cash, mobiles and a car worth about Rs 17 lakh, the money allegedly used to pay for the gruesome murder.
The murder was made to look like an accident. The police commissioner said that in May, the accused had made two failed attempts to kill Purushottam Puttewar. But he was slightly injured, so the family did not lodge a complaint with the police.
