Five people were injured in the incident that occurred around 5 am. Flight operations at Terminal 1 have been halted until 2 pm, from where only domestic flights operate. The airport operator is considering temporarily shifting operations from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Flight operations were resumed soon after the roof collapse incidents. Passengers already inside the terminal boarded their flights. Flight operations resumed fully at around 7:30 am.
There was no impact on the draw, Ruhi said. “Due to heavy rains since early morning today, a portion of the roof collapsed at the old departure forecourt of Terminal 1 of Delhi Airport at around 5 am. Five people were injured,” a Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) spokesperson said in a statement. “We are aware of the incident, and emergency personnel are working to provide all necessary help and medical assistance to the affected people,” the spokesperson said. As a result of the incident, all departures from Terminal 1 have been temporarily suspended, and check-in counters have been closed as a safety measure. “We regret the trouble and apologise for any inconvenience,” the spokesperson said. Civil Industries Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said in a post on Twitter that he was monitoring the situation, and the injured have been shifted to a hospital. “I am personally monitoring the roof collapse incident at Delhi airport’s T1. Rescue personnel are working on the victims. Also, airlines have been advised to assist all affected passengers at T1,” he said.
“The injured have been shifted to a hospital. Rescue operations are still underway,” he added. An IndiGo spokesperson said in a statement that flight operations have been affected due to general damage at T1 due to adverse weather. “This has led to the cancellation of flights in Delhi as passengers are not entering the terminal,” the airline said in a statement. Passengers already inside the terminal have boarded with their confirmed tickets, but the flights of those passengers have been cancelled. “Later, they were asked to fly on alternate flights.” The airline also said that operations across the network have been affected due to the turbulent situation. “Passengers are advised to keep track of their flight status and confirm before leaving for the airport,” it said. SpiceJet said in a post on Twitter that flights have been cancelled as T1 will remain partially closed for operations until further notice.
