7th Pay Commission DA Hike: Good news may come soon for central government employees. According to reports, the central government may announce a 3 percent increase in the dearness allowance (DA) in September 2024. The increased dearness allowance (DA) will come into effect on July 1, 2024. However, this increase can also be up to 4 percent; it will depend on the inflation situation. If the government increases DA by 3 to 4 percent on the first of September next month, then the DA received by central employees can increase to 53 to 54 percent.
Central employees are getting 50% DA
At present, the dearness allowance is 50 percent of the basic salary. According to the 7th Pay Commission, there is a discussion of including DA in the basic salary, but if DA is more than 50 percent, it will not be included in the basic salary. Instead, allowances will be increased, which also includes HRA. That is, if DA increases after a limit, then HRA, i.e., house rent allowance, will increase. Let us tell you here that during the fourth pay commission, at one time DA had reached 170 percent.
In the month of March, dearness allowance was increased by 4 percent
In March 2024, the Modi government increased the dearness allowance by 4 percent to 50 percent of the basic salary and also increased the dearness relief (DR) by 4 percent. Regarding the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, central employees and workers unions have demanded its formation before the 2024 budget and the restoration of the old pension scheme. However, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary told the Rajya Sabha in July that the government currently has no proposal to constitute the 8th Pay Commission.
When will the 8th pay commission come?
The 7th Pay Commission was constituted in February 2014, and its recommendations were implemented on January 1, 2016. Usually, the Central Government constitutes a Pay Commission every 10 years to revise the salaries of government employees. Therefore, at present there is no proposal to constitute the 8th Pay Commission, but the increase in dearness allowance can provide relief to the employees.
